How to remove coffee stains from white plastic components of a Gevalia coffee maker?
I have tried all the super market products to no avail. Vinegar did not have any success.
You know how cheap sponges keep getting softer and softer as you do dishes, and finally fall apart? That's because fats "melt" into plastic, becoming part of the polymer. What has probably happened with your coffeepot is that oils, which are largely responsible for the taste of coffee, has polymerized with the plastic. If that's happened, you can't get the stains out. They're going to stay. Gevalia's coffeepot is shoddily made, but it makes good coffee until it gives out - or until you decide it's too grungy to tolerate, and throw it out. I've got an el-cheapo microwave with the same staining problem, that's likely to see a garbage truck before it sees another summer. When I replaced my Gevalia coffeepot, I got one that I really love. It had the Salton name on it. I ended up using it to death, and bought essentially the same coffeepot again, only this time it has the Melitta name on it. Instead of brewing into a pot, it brews directly into one or two insulated travel mugs. There is no hotplate constantly reheating the coffee, so the coffee tastes fresh instead of getting stronger and stronger and stronger.
