Is it true that loaches and sharks can live under your under gravel filter plate for months?

I know it's true for Kuhli Loaches, but most other Loaches, and no Sharks that I can think of, will be able to fit under there... It isn't ~that~ uncommon for breeding populations of Kuhlis to be under your UG filter, simply eating all the food that gets sucked into it.
